Senior Mobile Handset Developer

Friendster is currently seeking a Senior Mobile Handset Developer with production Mobile experience developing in a high-volume commercial/consumer mobile application. This position will be a member of the Engineering team and will participate in the continued development of Friendster.s patent pending social network database technology as well as the development of other key infrastructural components of our service.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement features of Friendster products on a variety of handsets.
  • Work closely with OEMs and customers in identifying issues with their handsets.
  • Write design specifications and communicate designs to the team at large.
  • Must have experience and be a proven contributor in a small company with a fast-pace, less structured environment
  • Work closely with the Product Management team on feature definition and QA team to correct product defects and assist QA engineers in the testing.
  • Work closely with Operations team to ensure successful deployment of releases.
  • Assist the Support and Sales teams with the investigation and resolution of customer issues.
  • Implement best engineering practices to make Friendster best in class engineering organization.
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision with strong prioritization skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, communication and client presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills

Position Requirements

  • Experience building handset applications utilizing J2ME, Symbian or Brew.
  • 4+ years employed in mobile development.
  • Proven track record of delivering on-time, quality code.
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with constrained devices and platforms is a major plus.
  • Knowledge of internet technologies, networking, data structures and multi-threading is a must.
  • Experience with version control and release management is required.
  • Experience with Linux and networking protocols such as TCP/IP is desirable.
  • Strong time-management and independent-judgment skills required.
  • Ability to drive handset releases without management oversight.
  • Experienced in object oriented and pattern design.
  • Solid communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be enthusiastic and work well with others.
  • Creative problem solving skills.

  • Designs and supports the implementation of major architectural enhancements
  • Delivers high-quality LAMP-based software components on-time
  • Will work with the Operations and Quality Assurance departments to spearhead the rollout of new features and code updates on the site
  • Seeks opportunities to contribute features and enhancements to open source software projects in which Friendster participates
  • Mentors at least one other member of the Engineering staff

Position Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • 6+ years employed in backend web development
  • Proven track record of delivering on-time, quality code
  • Preferred skills in the use of MySQL or other relational databases, especially query optimization and schema design
  • Background developing for a primarily Linux environment
  • Clear understanding of the operation of the IP stack in Linux and of load balancing technologies
  • Must have some past development experience with at least one compiled language (C/C++ or Java preferred)
  • Large website experience with an understanding of scaling issues

Friendster is currently seeking a Senior Linux Systems Administrator with production Internet experience supporting a high-volume commercial website. This position will be a member of the Production Operations team and will be responsible for managing, growing and supporting Friendster’s large-scale Internet site.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides system architecture guidance
  • Plans and supports the implementation of major architectural changes
  • Will work with the Engineering and Quality Assurance departments to spearhead the rollout of new features and code updates on the site
  • Seeks opportunities to contribute features and enhancements to open source software projects in which Friendster participates
  • Has frequent contact with vendors for technical support and technical planning
  • Mentors at least one other member of the Operations staff
  • Must be willing to be available 24/7, via a planned rotation schedule, by pager for emergencies

Position Requirements:

  • 8+ years employed in Linux / UNIX administration
  • Hands-on experience supporting large Linux environments (200+ servers) and maintaining a consistent install base across the entire environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in Apache, PHP, MySQL including performance tuning
  • Experience with NFS, Squid, and CVS
  • Clear understanding of the operation of the IP stack in Linux and of load balancing technologies
  • Must have some past development experience with at least one compiled language (C, C++, Java) plus at least one scripting language (Bourne shell, Perl, PHP)

Desired Experience:

  • Familiarity with SAN (Hitachi Data Systems / McData preferred)
  • Experience with Network Appliance storage systems
  • Knowledge of Veritas Cluster Server administration
  • Supervisory or team training experience
